Safety First: Part 2

Welcome to Part 2 of the Safety First series, I want to share three top tips for keeping safe and happy, whilst out and about. Let's jump straight in!

1. Know Your Vehicle

Driving is a stressful situation at the best of times, with so many distractions and so many things to be aware of. It is so important to know the limitations of your vehicle.

How well can your vehicle handle corners? How hard do you need to press the brakes? Learn the dimensions of the vehicle, ensure you can get down certain roads or driveways.

Knowing how your vehicle can handle these situations, will keep you stay safe and leave you with an informed decision on how to approach certain deliveries.

2. Plan Your Route

There are so many variables involved with having a safe delivery run, but knowing your route is a huge help and a great safety precaution.

Now we can’t eliminate stress entirely, but a well-planned route can make a huge difference. Ensure you set up your route in advance in your navigation device, if you can. This will save time when performing searches on your device, as you may not be able to do so when out and about in areas of poor signal.

As recommended by www.healthworkscollective.com be sure to use a route planner that allows you to tag risks and important information to share with other drivers. Not only are you looking out for your community, but it means if you end up visiting that address again, you don't miss any important information relating to it.

3. Emergency Circumstances

We don't want to have to think about it, but circumstances can change and it's really important to have a well thought out plan if things get critical for you. If the circumstance requires it, try and remain calm. Take yourself to a place of safety if you feel threatened, this could be inside a shop where there are more people, under street lamps to stay visible, or simply lock yourself inside of your vehicle.

Using a Lone Worker Safety Device is essential in these circumstances. Ensure you use an App that allows you to share your precise location with a click of a button, this gives you reassurance and also allows for a quick response from the emergency services.
